Honda Recalls 41580 Cars in India to Replace Defected Airbag

Japanese auto maker Honda is recalling 41,580 units of previous generation of Accord, Civic, City and Jazz vehicles in India as part of a global exercise to rectify defected airbags inflators. The company, which is present in India through a wholly-owned arm Honda Cars India Ltd announced that the latest recall will impact models which were manufactured in 2012.

The replacement drive is part of Honda’s preventive global recall campaign concerning defective air bag inflators supplied by Takata Corporation, which has affected at least 7 million cars worldwide.According to the Honda Company the recall will affect 659 units of the premium sedan Accord, 32,456 units of City, 7265 units of Jazz and 12oo units of Civic.

The replacement will be carried out free of cost at Honda car India limited dealerships across India. The company said, the replacement of inflators for the affected models would begin immediately and the company will communicate with customers directly. The Takata recall has been a global phenomenon with Japanese car companies being particularly badly hit by its faulty airbags. Honda, Hyundai, Toyota and Nissan have gone in for recalls to fix the Takata airbags and the Takata-triggered recalls have been among the biggest car recalls in India.
