Why Engine Cranks but Wont Start Sometimes Find Problems

In this guide I will tell you different problems that lead to engine failure or we can say due to these reasons engine cranks but won’t start. First of all you have to look that what is needed for a car to start. Then we will look for the reasons that caused engine to cease such as during rainy season when your car won’t start it means water getting into the ignition component is the reason due to which engine don’t start. You can do different tricks to find a problem and then possible solutions.

What is needed for the engine to start?

If the engine of your car cracks but won’t start you should check the battery and its starting systems properly. If your car’s battery is very low on charge then engine would crank. Here look what else is needed for an engine to start and what are the common problems:

1. Compression in the engine cylinders:

The normal compression in the engineis120-170 psi so if your engine won’t start it means that compression is 70-80 psi. There could be many reasons for low compression such as a leaking head gasket, broken timing belt, incorrect timing, broken pistons, burnt or bent valves, etc. Sometimes it happens that engine overheat which causes the pistons to beak or leakage. In both the cases there engine won’t start due to low compression.

2. Proper timing:

The engine camshaft that open and close the engine valves is accurately timedto the crankshaft through a timing belt, chain or gears. If the timing belt is broken or loses, the engine will not run properly. Another problem is stretched timing belt or chain. Often it occurs that due to high mileage the car timing change stretches which cause ignition timing to be too retarded to start.

3. Fuel and spark:

Fuel and spark are the very important components that play an important role in starting the engine. A car engine needs proper fuel supply to the cylinders and a strong spark on the spark plug to ignite the mixture. Many problems could occur with thefuel delivery system include a bad fuel pump, bad fuel pump relay or wiring. A common problem is that your car ran out of fuel but fuel gauge shows fuel in the tank. It means that fuel gauge is faulty. In modern vehicles problems in the Transmission Control Module (TCM), Body Control Module (BCM) and a security system may cause engine to cease.

Some common situations in which engine cranks but won’t start:

  1. Commonly it happens that engine loses power and dies like if it ran out of gas. In this problem fuel level sensors don’t work properly because your car ran out of fuel but fuel gauge shows fuel in the tank. It means that fuel gauge is faulty. A common indication of lack of fuel is the lack of power. If there is little fuel in the tank, the engine may start and run for a short time, then die again. There is only one indication that show low fuel is that the fuel pump sounds differently.
  2. If the engine of the car was repaired recently then you should recheck it because may be the wires were not connected properly.
  3. Your engine won’t start after water got into the engine compartment. It may happen that after washing the car or driving through deep water may enter into the engine components. Due to entrance of water the process of ignition won’t start. If you have done tuning tune it up. Go to the mechanic and dry out ignition components to start your car’s engine.
  4. If the engine is overheated, your car won’t start. Overheating can cause lot of problems to the car. Check the car cylinders and a leak test can also be performed.
  5. You can thoroughly read all the problems mentioned above. Find out your car problem so that you can find a possible solution mentioned in the above lines. Hope this information would help you finding the exact problem that occurs with your car’s engine.
