New Gen Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Launch in India on April 2018

Mitsubishi will reportedly be launching the new-gen Pajero Sport in India in April 2018. The company is yet to make an official announcement about the same. The new-gen model was unveiled in 2015 and is already on sale in multiple markets, including Thailand, Indonesia, Qatar and Middle East. Known internally as the QX (QE in some markets), this all-new SUV, like earlier, is built on a strong ladder-frame chassis and is based on the Triton light pick-up truck.

A direct rival to the Ford Endeavour and Toyota Fortuner, this larger than life SUV holds your attention with its high-set bonnet and striking new grille. Mitsubishi calls the latter the ‘Dynamic Shield’, and with fat bands of chrome running around the radiator and down the chin, it does inject plenty of drama into the design. Mitsubishi says the large grille isn’t just decorative. The company claims it has also been designed to keep the windscreen splash-free when you drive through deep water. Adding to the chrome flourishes on the nose are multiple ridges and folds on the bonnet. The new Pajero Sport also gets chic-looking bi-LED projector lamps.

As a result, majority of the length increment has gone into the rear overhang, which helps in liberating more space for the third seat occupants. The side profile also houses squared wheel arches and a sharp recess near the wraparound taillights. The rear end houses large, vertically stacked taillight clusters, a shallow rear bumper that doesn’t jut out from the body and a curved tailgate with the number plate housing in the centre.

The new Pajero Sport is a good 90mm longer than its predecessor. The wheelbase remains unchanged from before, and the length comes courtesy the longer front and rear ends. The fact that the Pajero Sport has grown in size is sure to go down well with the ‘bigger is better’ breed of Indian SUV buyers. The new-gen Pajero Sport is expected to be powered by a 2.4-litre, four-cylinder MIVEC turbocharged diesel engine, which will be mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. This powertrain will likely be able to churn out 178 BHP and 430 Nm of torque.
